Lorenzo improves on day two of Sepang test
Michelin tyre drama made every riders day difficult
DESPITE Tuesday's tyre drama, Jorge Lorenzo still set his best time of the test to date to end the day in second behind Danilo Petrucci.
Movistar Yamaha MotoGP’s Jorge Lorenzo set the pace on Monday in Sepang, a second clear of the rest of the field. While strong during the second day, it was clear that other riders had improved.
Setting a 2:00.155, the 2015 MotoGP World Champion was forced to settle for second. There was also a fall at Turn five for Lorenzo as the factory rider lost the front of his M1.
Neither Lorenzo nor his bike suffered any serious injury or damage and were able to go back out on track with his 2:00.155 coming towards the end of the session.
Tuesday saw Lorenzo focus mainly on the 2016 YZR-M1 and getting the Michelin tyres and Magneti Marelli electronics to work competently together.
'Today, after Baz‘s crash we couldn‘t use the soft rear anymore, so I had to adapt my riding,' said the Spaniard.
'It‘s been a little bit difficult, but we still kept having a good feeling apart from the crash that I had with the hot track temperature and the hard front, which looks to be a little bit worse for me.
'In the afternoon, when we put in the softer tyre, I regained the feeling again that I had yesterday and was able to keep being the fastest rider on the track.
'Even with the hard tyre we could improve my time of yesterday by half a second, this is a good point. We keep having big margin over the rest and this is very encouraging.'
The final day of the Sepang test takes place at 10am local time tomorrow.
