Deals Gap

Anyone planning a Deals Gap trip this year? Have always talked about going and would like to make it a reality this year.

Make sure you hit Cherohala Skyway, it's far better than the Dragon. I'll probably be out there at some point this year

In between bikes

These days cops hang out there like 24/7 making the good old days exactly that - good old. Plus the visitors make it crowded too. Good luck if you go. Just don't end up leaving some of your gear in that tree. Take pics

It was recommended once to ride Cherohala Skyway and not even bother with Deals Gap. What time of year you think it will be?

There are a lot of roads in the area better than Deals Gap. Cherohala, Copperhead, Hellbenders Hwy 28, Shiners Run, Devils Whip Hwy 80, Wolf Pen Gap - Georgia Dragon, Suchees etc.
Make sure you do Hwy 129 Deals Gap during the week, traffic is bad on weekends
You cant go wrong in that area. Blue Ridge Parkway is nice but slow speed limits and many tourists.

Couldn't say for sure, have lots of plans that I'm trying to get in order that involve trips and track days. I would ride the Dragon again, but it was not the best riding that we did and I seriously preferred Cherohala Skyway. I think I actually had the must fun on the Suches Loop down in Georgia. We didn't see a single cop while we were out there, and we were there riding Friday and Saturday. We hit the dragon early Friday morning. Hit it early before it gets packed, look good in your killboy pics, stop and buy a t shirt, and then hit Cherohala. The overlook on Cherohala is pretty good if you like the scenic .

I've been to both and I would choose Arkansas over the extra drive. Tons of fun roads all over the place. Too many to list. There is a group from here going to AR this year. Around the May timeframe.

When I was in Arkansas for work back in the day I wished more than anything that I had my bike with me. So many bad roads

If you go to Deals Gap to ride the dragon, try to schedule your ride for during the week... And be wrapped up by Thursday afternoon..

Friday/sat/sun is retarded traffic..

Cherohala skyway is a lot of fun...much faster then the Dragon.

I made the pilgrimage to Deals Gap last summer in my Vette and we had a blast.. There will be a bike trip in the future..a few years out probably.

^This. There are so many great roads, and many of them aren't as full of asshattery and trafffic as that part of 129. I miss living in that area and having access to those roads anytime I wanted.

It's worth doing at least once, but Don't stop with the Dragon. North Georgia has 60, 180, Blood Mountain on 129 (a must for Mastadon fans...), Richard B Russel Parkway etc. that you should hit too. During one of my friend's bachelor party weekend years ago, we did them all in a couple of days. Nearly 600 miles of tire killing, leg cramping twisties. 60 out of Suches then turns into 68, hit 165 (Cherahola) at Tellico Plains, then up 143 and 1127 to Deal's Gap. It's a killer ride.

There's a group up here in the Dallas area that goes once a year.
Well, one guy in particular plans it around one of the Barber tack weekends then gets a rental cabin during the week to ride all those roads for about three days.
I went with them a few years ago and had a blast.
If you want PM me and I'll show you how to get in contact with him.

Was half-assed mapping TN/NC routes and saw that 441 out of Gatlinburg is under construction with random daytime closures through May. Anyone going this spring needs to plan accordingly.

So 4 of us are going May 2nd thru the 5th. Randomly talking about it at work and three other coworker's wanted to go. Was six but two dropped out, which is expected when putting something together. Got really great deals on rooms and I have a friend letting us borrow his enclosed trailer.
