Video: Ryuichi Kiyonari Shows You How to Ride in the Rain

kiyonari in rainy donington qualify 2?itokPNhIdQ k

A clear, mysterious liquid that we almost never see here in California has started falling from a cluster of dark, ominous clouds hovering over the Sport Rider office. Yes, you read that right, it's actually raining in Southern California, meaning those of us who usually brag about getting to ride in warm, dry weather 365 days a year, are now in the same boat as you, stuck commuting in the rain.

I'll admit that I don't love the rain, but I don't hate it either. It's exhilarating in a way, plus in my opinion it can actually make you a better rider, as it forces you to make smoother, more controlled inputs rather than aggressive stabs at the throttle or brake.

I'm not sure if this video of former British Superbike champion Ryuichi Kiyonari qualifying for a World Superbike race at Donington is a great example of that, but regardless, it's long been one of my favorite clips on the internet, and something that always pops back in my head when I see rain in the forecast. Consider it an inspiration, of sorts...

If you haven't seen the clip yet (or even if you have) click the play button on the video below and check it out. Crazy how comfortable he is in the wet, isn't it?
