WSBK organisers announce new race weekend schedule

World Superbike race one will now take place on Saturday

WSBK organisers announce new race weekend schedule

THE organisers of the World Superbike championship have just announced changes to the race weekend schedule that from 2016 onwards will see the first World Superbike race taking place on Saturday.

Instead of its usual Sunday morning slot, from next season the first of the World Superbike races will take place at 1pm on Saturday. Race two will still take place on Sunday afternoon, and will still be preceded by the World Supersport race.

World Supersport will also adopt the same superpole qualifying format as the World Superbike class and qualifying will take place before the WSBK race on Saturday. Sunday mornings will be all about warm up sessions.

Free practice sessions, along with practice session timed for qualifying will be moved to Friday mornings.

The FIM and Dorna WorldSBK Organisation says it’s made the change to World Superbike’s traditional format to ‘offer increased fan attendance and especially the chance to feel the adrenaline of WorldSBK racing during the 2 day event.’
