Top 5 sport Bike Tech Articles
Motorcycle riders, and especially sportbike riders, are typically very interested in the technical aspects of riding and their motorcycles. Articles of this nature have long been a staple of Sport Rider magazine, and here we have compiled a list of the five most popular technical articles on the Sport Rider website. We based the selection on a number of criteria, and they cover the spectrum from hands-on suspension setup to the tech highlights of the new 2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R. Additionally, following our top-five list are five more honorable mentions.
Scroll down to view the synopsis of each of the top-five tech articles, or use the links to read the entire story.
1: Sportbike Suspension Guide
Almost overwhelmingly, our starting page for all things suspension is the most popular single-page tech article on the SR site. The guide includes links to other articles that are in turn very popular as well, including:
Sportbike Suspension Guide. If you crave even more suspension-related material, you can check out the Jan. 2016 issue of SR on newsstands now for "The Perfect Setup."
2: Oil's Well That Ends Well
While these two articles are now more than 10 years old, they still contain a huge amount of relevant information that will help you choose which oil to use in your bike. In Part 1, we examine what exactly goes into motor oil, why those ingredients are there and what it means for your engine. Part 2 features a scientific analysis of several major motorcycle-specific motor oils, plus a wear and dyno test of certain oils to determine whether there is a power difference. 3: Inside the 2016 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R
New bikes always generate loads of interest, and on the tech side our in-depth look at Kawasaki's new 2016 Ninja ZX-10R garnered plenty of attention. The bike may not be an all-new model, but few parts remain from the old model and there are a significant number of upgrades. Here we take a closer look at the new bike through a series of images Kawasaki released that show various aspects of the engine and chassis. 4: MotoGP Setup
Modern MotoGP bikes have an almost infinite number of setup variables for the engine, chassis, and electronics but must use a spec tire. In this article from earlier this year, we take a look at how different teams and riders juggle those variables for the best package on a given day. Read the article here: MotoGP Setup.
5: Lowering Your Bike Safely
Today's sportbikes are fantastic and have incredible cornering abilities, but along with that comes very tall seat heights that are simply unmanageable for some riders.
