As to which one 8500 or V1, I think its a personal preference. People that have the V1 like the V1 people that have the 8500 like the 8500. I have the V1 and have had NO problems with it and I like that I can send it in to get updated when new updates come in.

During the rain, I would just take it off

With the new 9500 you can just download their updates off the internet instead of sending it in, but a lot of ppl are not happy with the 9500 so I dunno about that one.

My Escort 8500 has paid for itself SO many times!
I'm considering buying the 9500 soon...

IMHO, Any detector over 5 years old should be dumped.

yea. Brand new they are like $400. then every 2 yrs get it updated and a brand new one for $80. better than buying a $200 one every 4+ yrs.

They sell hard cases that you can mount on your Bike. I use to ride with some Valero people and one was a cop o nthe side and he had it. be warned though. if you have one you will for ever ride point!

I had a 8500 for like a month and it worked GREAT

but I think i would like the Beltronics RX65. it dosn't leak as much as the rest. you know how the cops can tell if you have a radar. well they can't( *makes it harder to pick up) with the RX65

Patrick is the way to go though! that HARD system is da $hit

here are a few read ups.

I usually take it off and put in the tank bag, BUT i carry a ziplock bag and some tie wraps in the tail and have been known on long trips to just cover it up good and continue

i ran a line from my radar a (Male end that plugs into the radar), and the other end is a female jack where it runs under the tank to the bottom panel of my tank. then i have head phones installed into my helmet. so everytime i get on i just plug the headphones that are in my helmet and im done.

i'll try to get pics when i get home from work.
