New Rider in the Galleria

Good Morrow All,

I live in the Galleria area and i just bought a 2013 Honda CBR500R. I grew up riding dirt bikes, driving cars too fast, and doing stupid things and occasionally even rode a few street bikes.

It has been several years since I have really ridden but recently I have felt that no that I am older and more mature it is time to ride again. I hopped on the bike and I must say the old adage that "its just like riding a bike, you never forget" really rings true.

I am excited to be apart of a group of people (not just motohouston, but all riders) that look out for each other. I even got my first "Wave" this morning.

don't hesitate to reach out, I am excited to dive head first into this world and want to learn as much as I can and meet as many people as I can.

I still have not named her and she needs a good cleaning from me, but she is pretty!

PS- it looks SUPER low.

If you're vertically challenged, I'd have Patrick at Motorcycles Unlimited or someone with some suspension knowledge check it out.

If you're not under 5'5".. I would have it set back to stock height pronto. You're loosing a lot of the sporty handling that makes the lightweight twins so fun.

(forks should be flush with triple, and tail outta be up 1.5-2")

I was thinking that it felt super low. i know the stock seat height is about 33" im just shy of like 5'11" and it definitely seems off to me.

I found a tape measure in my office and a rough guestimate of the seat heigh was right about 30" maybe a little lower. the seat height from what i have found is right at 31". i was measuring the middle of the seat, not the back where it is the highest.

I cant wait to get rid of the saddle bags. the guy said he spent about $700 getting them. i just dont like them. they have some scratches but i could probably get a couple hundred for them.

He also gave me a nice Sena SMH10 that i am loving, along with some other stuff that i cant fit like a medium cortech jacket.

Definitely get the ride height back to stock, there is no practical reason to have it lowered especially if you can touch. Welcome!

NOT AT ALL, I went out and looked at the bike in my office parking lot and saw that on the bike already.

I text the guy to see if he had the origanl part and he said he didnt know anything about it, he said it must have been from the previous owner.

Im taking it this weekend to get a good once over from someone that knows more about it than i do.

I actually wish that it was a bit higher. I can stand while straddling the bike and still get a decent gap from seat to goody hole (Read in BakerXderek voice)

A shock linkage should be easy to find used on ebay, and raising the front only requires loosening the triple clamps/handlebars, and sliding the forks down flush.

The rear takes a bit more work (without a cneter stand), but can be done on a rear stand with a pile of books to take the weight off the rear tire. Beyond that it's simple nuts and bolts
