Would do this but only for the MSRH round. They said they have had one at TWS (Texas World Speedway).

Did you mean least expensive? Because when you start adding up rollcage, safety gear for multiple drivers, tires, fuel, spare parts, trailer, tools, lodging, food... You get the point

No. The car is $500. Rollcage is extra. Fuel is extra. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure tires are extra. Unless you are welding it yourself, the cage alone will cost more than the car.

I did the same calculation and I figure we could do it bare bones style with 4 people at $1k per person.

I could have misread, but I didn't see minimum or maximum requirements. I know my friend's team has 6, and they started with less and keep adding people. There may have been rule changes over the years though.

$500 total for purchasing, repairing, and customizing.

There is no cap on safety features. This includes, tires, wheels, brake system, cage, seat, fuel system. Also, drivers must have all the proper safety gear.

Rules are on their website: https://www.24hoursoflemons.com/prices-rules#

This type of racing would be most economical for people that already have most of these things.

Yes you are right, there is a lot of labor and parts in those cars, just because they didn't cost up front doesn't mean you don't pay for them. The good ones that compete are probably 3-5k racecars. You can also get credits the more you race, and use money for parts sold of the car to buy other things. The guy replying above has no clue what he is talking about.

I have a few as well, but none that is a perfect candidate (IMO). I figure if a small Honda (Mid 90's), or an older (80's) caprice/impala comes up, I may try to pick it up. I did a small spreadsheet and came up with a $5.6K build. Repth is on the money, it'll take roughly $1K/person to have a decent vehicle to compete in and that's not including registration, hotel, food, or fuel.

Still, it is cheaper than drag racing/tracking a car. I've spent more in a month on my TSi doing street races.

Don't forget the ritual of bribing the judges for your class placement!
