When he got off the first bike yes the mech grabbed the clutch incase MM didn't have it in neutral. The B bike wasn't in gear, MM still had to shift it. The mech had the lever in perhaps as a precaution if MM hit the shifter while jumping on the bike. Race stewards looked that the telemetry data and MM was the one to put it in gear so it was ruled no infraction.

It was ruled no infraction bc it's marquez. You still have two people working controls on the bikes that aren't the rider.

There is no such rule. There is not even a rule that says the bike cannot be in gear during the handoff. Here they are if you want to look for yourself.

http://www.fim-live.com/en/library/d...63/no_cache/1/

I know the talk about race direction issuing an instruction about this, but I think it's an over reaction.

These bikes do not have starters. They must be stated in gear working the clutch and then holding it. At that point the mechanic either reaches down to put it in neutral by hand and hands it over or the rider takes over the clutch from the begining.

Having the lever engaged is the smartest way to do it in the bike swaps. Wether the bike is in gear or not makes no differnce. The most dangerous part of the bike swap is stopping entering the pits. Locking the front on a wet pit lane far more dangerous and likely than popping the clutch and stalling the bike by accident.

Apart from all that it was a great race. Marquez even had a massive off road moment and still ran away with it.

Is that ruling posted on the internet?

Can you provide a link to any official ruling? What article of the rules states that? Which page of the rules is that on?

Again, I even highlighted the comment in which the article was directed at. And it was definitely a tongue in cheek comment. You keep getting hung up on it being from 2013, it was the first thing that came to mind when I read it. I googled stupid mistake Marc Marquez pit crew because I knew it would be the first thing that popped up. Is there a statute of limitations on being stupid?

Maybe you could find a mistake from 2012?
What was really funny was Rossi's pit crew throwing a fit when he ignored requests to come in on yet another lap
That was genius!

Why? I'm not hung up on the faults of MM and his team. I saw a comment that I thought was funny given they up because they ran out of fingers.

Many many moons ago, in a non-irrelevant championship, 2013.

Yup, pretty meaningless since Honda and Marquez took the 2013 title

Even if Rossi had gone in when they first told him to, he would have lost to Marquez. They put him back out on intermediates.

Looking at the times the difference inters and slicks was enough to cover the time that Marquez had already lost to the leaders. So had he come in when he should have Rossi would have been there for the lead even with the intermediate tires.
