Newb :D

I am super new to the biking scene, I have been more of a car guy by myself. I bought a TAOTAO db14 pit bike recently. I want to join some motocross, but I want to plate it sometime in the future and was wondering who here has experience plating pit or dirt bikes in houston. Thank You!!

That is what it looks like the length of it is 63" so its not really pit but its not really bike XD. Its not very fast, the only reason I MIGHT plate it in the future is for convenience and the ability to drive in my neighborhood legally.

I've had my share of Chinese pitbikes. My general advice is to not plate a china bike. The quality of the bike will make you regret spending the time and effort to plate it, get lights, upgrade the stator, etc...

I'm all about plating bikes not intended for street, done 5 or 6 of them, but I'd skip the TaoTao and abuse it till it breaks and buy a Honda 70 or 100, or a electric start TTR like the one for sale now that already has an electrical system.

Your bike has no way to generate electricity, a fatal flaw.

If you disagree, contact Chad Ef, aka Magicman on the forum, and he can wire up a stator and voltage regulator for ya.

I definitely would not disagree with you since i don't know XD. However I was wondering what was a mandatory requirement to plate it. Do I need a battery? or can my lights run off double aa's ? kinda thing.

You have to have a functioning headlight (which can be battery, as long as it is DOT approved), functioning rear brake light, one rear-view mirror (not sure if this is still recommended or not), and a lighted license plate mount at the rear of the bike. Also, the bike MUST be insured. You do not need signal lights due to the fact you can use hand signs. Some will say you do not need a rear brake light, but if you get an inspector... they can fail you for that.
