Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

I was looking around at ExImport at there gear earlier and I think I've decided on the AlpineStars T-Stunt Air Flow jacket, Joe Rocket Super Moto gloves, and the Shoei RF1000 Badge helmet.

Do you all think I should go w/ a Arai over the Shoei, I really like the look of the Shoei I found but the guy was trying to talk me into the Arai plus they didn't have any Shoeis for me to try on (I need a XS or a S). I'm gonna go to Cycle gear tomorrow to try on the Shoei.

Arai, Shoei, and Suomy are all excellent helmets. Buy what fits best.

Still haven't gotten gear yet. Anywhere else I can try out gear besides ExImport that's around that area? I'm in Missouri City/Sugarland

Cycle Gear and Motorcycles Unlimited are both good places to try gear. And I agree with Patrick, buy what fits best.

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

No I signed up Spring Branch, that was closer to me (even though both are far). I'm in the Sugarland/Missouri City area. Sure coulda used the coupon though. I actually get 10% off at Cycle Gear though for fire fighting right:

Ebay is still cheaper though, except for gloves. Those are pretty much the same price everywhere.

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

I like my alpine stars T stunt. Durable, and it flows for those summer days, although some of these 100+ degree days I ride with it open, but only on country roads. Good choice for gear though.

Will it still protect good against road rash or is it just for falling and leather is for road rash?

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

When I went down, a hole was punched in mine, but it realy did hold up well. I had a SMALL scratch, and it probally wouldnt have ripped if it was properly cuffed. I wasnt exactly going slow either (rear brake lock on the highway). I would recomend it for its protection, but it is a bit pricey.

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

It's not that pricey. Can be found for less than $200 on ebay, it's $209 at the stores. I just didn't think that the mesh would hold up that good but I guess you have first hand experience, lol.

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

You can find quite a few jackets on par for 150. The mesh is pretty good because you dont have a reason not to wear your jacket.

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

Main concern is will the mesh protect good enough though for street riding or if I should I spring the extra cash and get a leather.

I like the looks of the T-stunt though so I'll probably go with that one if I get the Mesh.

I really like the Alpinestars SMX jacket (I think thats what it is) It's bad but $700

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

Main reason I purchased mine was for visability reasons. As cool as black is, I like people to know Im there (light bar on front, loud slash cut pipes, reflective piping backpack). I have the black white and grey scheme, wich is neutral enough to wear on any bike, and still pretty visable/

Try stuff on at various locations... and then go on the net and get it from there! I dont think you'll find apparel any cheaper than what u see it on the net, sometimes the net just cant be beat right: . U can find the Suomy, Arai helmets that are usually $400+-$500+ from the net for about $300 or someone even may cut u a deal. There was this Suomy helmet thats about $350 go for $175 on ebay... BRAND NEW right:

Just look around man!

Re: Getting new gear, what do you guys think?

yeah i have been. Helmets are hard to try on locally. I can't compare because no one carries them all in a small. Some places will have 1 small shoei but no arais then opposite at other places. Hard to compare helmets like that. Sucks having a small head :(
