Sepang Clash Update: Rossi Appeals FIM Stewards’ Decision
Should Rossi win his appeal to have the penalty overturned? Was Marquez playing within the rules? Whose side are you on?
One of the most controversial moments in recent MotoGP competition took place last weekend at the Shell Malaysia Grand Prix between Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi and Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez. The #SepangClash that occurred at turn 14 six laps into the race involved contact between Marquez and title contender Rossi, and Marquez crashing out. Since then, fans on both sides of the controversy have set the internet on fire, fueled even more after Race Direction sanctioned Rossi for his actions, a decision that, as it stands, puts the nine-time World Champion at the back of the Valencia starting grid for the final and decisive race. Fire up the comments again and tell us whose side you’re on and what you think of this latest development.
As video clips from multiple angles continue to play all over the internet, fans are still at odds over what really happened to cause Marquez to go down.
The latest in the string of #SepangClash events comes from MotoGP this morning:
On the basis of Article 3.4.2, para 3 of the FIM Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix Regulations, Mr Valentino Rossi has filed an Appeal against the decision taken by the Race Direction of the Shell Malaysia Motorcycle Grand Prix in Sepang, penultimate round of the FIM MotoGP Grand Prix World Championship, and confirmed by the FIM Stewards, to award 3 penalty points to Mr Rossi following an incident on Turn 14.
In appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), Mr Rossi seeks annulment or reduction of the penalty. He further requests stay of execution of the decision in accordance with Article R37 of the Code of Sports-Related Arbitration.
The FIM will not comment any further at this time.
