I'm surprised nobody noticed, but a correction on my part. Had I not been drinking, I would have said El Paso trip, not Brownsville.

( If anyone wondered, why go to Brownsville, if traveling to Ca. ) in my mind I got the two switched.

IMHO, if you are simply wanting to ride it there to show the new bike off, get a small hitch installed on the car, and trailer it there so you can enjoy yourself.

If it is experience you are wanting to gain, then I would do some forest rides 1st, before tackling a long boring trip to the valley on your bike.

Again, driving in a car that long is boring. At least on the bike theres a better view.

He doesn't need a forest ride to learn endurance on a bike.

Perez, Just do it. If anything, for sure get a competant throttle lock (throttlemeister/kaoke) then the fun in that is to see how many miles you can ride with no Hands. it'll give your body a break. I've done ~30.

I wouldn't do it, but then again I'm not the one asking. Taking a long straight line trip on a sportbike isn't really enjoyable. Sportbikes on the road are there for 2 reasons, taking to the track and looks. You bought for the latter, which is great. But you're not looking at your bike for 800 miles to El Paso. Everything else about an R6 will make you want to trade it in for something that is built for that type of trip, like a Gold Wing or BMW tourer.

I have ridden my zx10 several times from Houston to southernmost S.Padre Island to visit my brother "the surfer dude"

I made it in 5hrs (daytime, hauling ) 7.5 hrs (night).
Careful through all the little towns 35 means 35..."Refugio" and most towns south of Victoria.

at night there was a tremendous amount of bugs and I had to stop to clean the face-sheild more than to get gas.

riding with a backpack sucks, in fact riding with any extra anything sucks...

inflate your rear tire, but the front I leave just a few pounds above normal.

I lay on the tank heavily, so if you can get a tank bag that would help, also its pretty dark on those roads (77) at night..

the gas stations start closing at 12midnight so plan accordingly.

have a safe trip... be sure to drink a lot of fluids the day before you go and during the trip...
they have been doing a lot of construction lately so watch out for detours, they will send you way out of the way...

I will advise NOT riding at night at all unless is one of the interstates freeways. I-35 and I-37 in this case.

Take frequent breaks. Tske ibuprofen before you start and midway through the ride. Don't ride after dark because of animals. Carry a damp microfiber clothe in your left jacket pocket so you can wipe the bugs off your face shield as you are riding. When you stop for a break/gas wash your face and rinse the grit out of your eyes.
Have fun.

I carry some of the pre-moistened glass wipes in a baggy. Whatever you do don't use the washer water at the gas station or you'll smell that stink of dead bugs the rest of the trip.

Get a cheap magnetic tank bag. Put your stuff in it. And use it as a chest pillow to run long distances without tiring your arms. 400 miles is nothing. And it is also a hella long way on an r6. At 80 it's 5+ hours. Take breaks, avoid a backpack

+1 on the ibuprofen. Drink lots and lots of water. Also, put down the passenger pegs and move your legs, one at a time, back and forth from the rider pegs to the passenger pegs periodically to stretch them. A cheap throttle lock will help you keep your hand from going numb.
I rode a Buell XB9 from Springfield Missouri straight thru to Houston using these methods and was still able to walk and stand up straight afterward. Get off the thing and walk around every hundred miles or so.
Enjoy the ride.
