Question Fastest Production Bike History

What is the history of bikes holding the title of "World's Fastest Production Motorcycle"?

In recent years I think everyone's heard about the Hayabusa getting (barely) topped by the ZX-14. Now we've got the R1M and the Kawasaki H2 competing for the role. Far as I know the BMW S1000RR has been a hot contender. Is this leaving out the Y2K-bike (powered by Bell helicopter turbine engine) or the Boss Hoss using a small-block Chevy V-8?

And what about previous years? As far as I know (and I'm probably way off) I think we're looking at:

Mid-70's : Honda, something (Firehawk?)
Late-70's : Kawasaki KZ-1300
Early 80's : Suzuki GSX-1100S (1981), became GSX-1100F (1982)
Mid-80's : Suzuki GSX-750-R (GSX-R 750)
Mid-90's : Kawasaki Ninja ZX-12
Late-90's : 'Busa (1999)

... bringing us up to where we are now.

Corrections, anyone?

it was the CBR1100XX blackbird before the hayabusa, which is a bird or prey that eats black birds.

Most every bike is limited two 300kph from the factory now.

With bikes being factory restricted to 186 mph now it's a question of fastest "how"? For street legal bikes, in the quarter mile I believe the 14r still holds the title (unmodifed the street h2 is so heavily restricted to pass emissions that it barely looses still), on a road course (all conditions except bike being the same) I believe the s1000rr still is but I haven't read much on the R1M, and fastest "production bike" (and I use the term loosely) is the H2R hands down.

zx12 WAS NOT IN THE 90'S IT was the ZX11C first then later the ZX11D and in 2000
you could buy a ZX11D , ZZR1200 , or ZX12 R all three different machines .

As far as records a very large % are heeled by Hayabusa's ( no not your 300 wide tire busa ) LSR / Drag / mile / half mile / 8 busas racing to every 2 ZX14's in any class .

FYI BMW started the agreement to limit to 186 mph , and were first to break it with 1000R running 187 mph stock during testing .

On Paper before the 186 limiters came the Busa , and still is on PAPER.

Off paper no limit in the ECU's BMW / ZX14R H2R is a production bike , but not street legal so its out in its own world .

There's no such thing as the fastest production bike. Myth Busters has a show on that last season. Even with all the supposed sightings, never found one.

Right now removing the restrictions from the H2 make it that fastest Im pretty sure. Still stock form minus the electronic restrictions

It's all a play on words now days....

None of them are un-restricted from the factory so one claim is as good as another when talking stock or modded...

The last few street bikes went like this...

1999 Hayabusa 194mph
201x S1000RR 193mph
2015+ H2/201x ZX14R/2008+ Hayabusa/ZX12/whatever else 186mph (all restricted)...some went a hair or two mph more with wind in a few tests
1998 CBR1100XX 178mph
199x ZX11 175mph

Some good accel info for the latest crop..

http://www.cycleworld.com/2015/08/24...ations-photos/

Hard to compare one-off bikes and non-street legal bikes like the Y2K, H2R, etc.

H2R would hold the current record based on factory build stuff but for $50k it's not worth much but the bragging rights on a stock factory delivered bike. You can pick about any current bike and for less than half the entry price of one blow the H2R clean off the road AND be street legal.

It's still gear limited, it needs a sprocket change to get over 200mph and that's spinning it to 14,000rpm.

FastBikes in the UK did a test between the Busa and 12R back in 00... both did 194-196 with mirrors removed

I have a 1981 GS1100E and I always thought it was the fastest in 81. I think the CBX had it the year before.

"powerful" as a measure starts stepping into the boss hoss V8 world of 350s, 454s and even a 502. Doubt this puts down those numbers.

Lol at R1 being on the list

I'd say the H2, just a flash and exhaust net around 250rwhp on them. That's pretty impressive, considering your every day gsxr1000 sees around 175-180 with the same mods.

I never saw the FastBikes issue, do you have a copy?

I've seen the SuperBike issue but the Busa running 196mph was an odd deal, same with Bike Magazine UK June 99 issue running 200.2mph on a claimed stock Busa with a STUPID tail wind.

You said that the other day and it still sounds insane. 250rwhp with exhaust/tune. Doesnt a stock h2 make about 200?
