Who's running a dual compound tire for a sport bike? How many miles are u looking at here in Houston area? Pro and cons
I've been using a mich pp3 front and rear and am on my 2nd rear about 3k miles. Now in looking for a set again just don't know which ones are gonna be good for longevity and performance. Thanks. 07 gsxr 1k

Yea you are wasting your money....unless you are doing trackdays or sneaking off to some imaginary canyon roads there is no need for "race" tires on Houston streets.

You should be running a Sport front and Touring rear tire combo. Or just running both front and rear touring....

I've been running PP3's for the past two years... About 6000 on my current set. What tire pressures are you running? 3k miles sounds really bad. There's no reason you should be getting that little mileage on those tires.

Are you running pilot power 3s or pilot road 3s?

Q3s will wear out fast too

I'm running the powers. I have a buddy that runs the roads and will get 7k-8k miles. I've heard that the Q3's are much better in terms of traction, but longevity seems to be a little less that the Michelins. I've actually considered making a switch to the Q3 on the next set just to see what they're all about. I know the MX32 is one of the best MX tires I've used, so I'm sure the Q3 is top notch.

Back on topic (sort of), I currently have 4k on my PP3's and easily another 1k before I'll need to make a switch. I also run 30/31 to 30/33 f/r. Seems to work for me and I'm really happy with them.

Are street tires different? At least on track you usually run more pressure in the fronts. I heard michelins run in the low 30s but maybe 33 front 30 rear. At least that's what I heard

No track days for me and an occasional monthly crabb river ride without gettin out of hand.

This is how little I use the sides and the center has worn much more since this pic was taken. Don't get me wrong I have more life in them but when the center becomes very flat w/o showing treads is when I wanna replace them.

I only run the pilot road 3's anymore, they're a big improvement from the road 2's.
Much awe inspiring confidence in that front tire. The last rear I just changed out at 11K, still had tread but the traction was diminishing.
Both tires balanced with very little weight.
Someday I'll splurge the extra coin for the road 4's.

if he's on that 1000 according to his bike list, then it's gonna wear out faster than you guys riding 600s.

i'm with byrdman, for daily riding, a sport/touring combo is the best for mileage.

This is very true, but he shouldn't be getting 3k miles out of a rear before it's worn. That just sounds extremely odd.

S20 front bt016 rear. ~34 psi front and rear. Was only getting 3500 miles out of a s20 rear so I went to a bt016.

^^this..if you are on a liter bike and do a lot of hard launches and straight line riding you are going to wear out the middle super quick.

We live in Houston, get your confidence and ego in check and go buy some Sport touring tires because Im sure you can not out ride them anywhere around here (aside from the track)

Just put on a set of q3's. Heard a lot about short life but heard nothing but great things about grip. Currently running 35 psi frt/rr . Daily street grip is great.Weather and work has been keeping me away from RR and 3090 so i cant attest hard cornering grip and feel yet.
