What to do if you notice someone left their bike on?

I was heading into work today when I noticed one of the guys parked next to me had left his keys in and his lights on. I turned the key to the off position, but I left them in the ignition where they were because I had no idea how to find this person (this person was not a co-worker). Is there a better way to handle that, or is that about all I could really do?

had a coworker once that always left his key in the ignition of his Yamaha Roadstar. I saw it one day and knew it was his bike so I called his cube when I got inside. He said he didnt care and it wasnt going anywhere.

turn it off, not much else you can do.
Saw a bike that was left on with keys just chilling there around GRB one weekend. looked around for the rider, turned it off, and kept walking.

take the keys leave number and require proof of ownership to return them. Dont leave a reason why on the number. Just a number.

Take something not yours and require proof of ownership to return? Why not just leave alone that isnt yours?

Leave a note saying keys can be picked up at the local PD.

What if someone left their helmet on their bike?

I've never touched anyone's helmet, I actually have fastened mine to the handle bars from time-to-time. You never know if someone has head lice

Whats so different between thinking their keys needs to be taken somewhere and doing the same with their helmet? Thats the point I was trying to make

You have a great point, but I'd rather loose a helmet than a bike any day. I'll start turning in helmets too if I run across them
