Do I take Defensive Driving or Motorcycle safety course

Just got a ticket for 84 in a 60 in Harris County. Do i need to take a defensive driving course or a Motorcycle safety course?

I originally assumed it was defensive driving that I needed to take but I was presented with these two options when I tried to apply online.

IIRC, if you're under 25 and do deferred adjudication, you still need to take the safety course as part of the terms.

DPS gave me a ticket while I was riding and I was allowed to take the standard online Defensive Driving course. It's up the court. Contact them

just spoke with the court. She wasn't sure which one I needed to take and didn't even know they gave an option of DSC or MOTC.

This was given to me by DPS in Harris County.

I've done DA a bunch of times and never once did I have to do a DD class.

if it's anything downtown I'd rather pay my attorney than give money to the city.

Are you under 25? Perhaps the law has changed. I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure I was advised by a lawyer that he'd recommend deferred adjudication normally but because of my age, I'd have to take the safety course anyway. He did say that almost everyone that he handles tickets for does deferred, IIRC. It could also be a county specific thing.

Technically, the law is written that you can do either one, but ultimately it's up to the judge. I did a Motorcycle Safety Course for a ticket I received in the Jeep and I've done vice versa.

If you want to take DD, call back and ask them if you can take DD. Make sure they look up your ticket. Ultimately it's up to the judge

I wish I was that young.

Maybe I just forget about that part every time...but I'm pretty sure I have gotten DA and not had to do DD class...it was just plead no-lo, no tickets for X months and pay us this much $$$....

I will not take DA unless the court is absolutely ready to take it to trial.

I save defensive driving class for out of town tickets so I don't have to go back to whatever gave me the performance award.

CoH is about the only place I will always pay a lawyer. I do it because F the CoH and because I know a great traffic lawyer. That, and because his office is 4 blocks away so I don't have to pay the city for parking either. Also for the Harris precinct that have court downtown...

Rutherford got me off of 5 in one day, with one being DA.

Speeding, no insurance, no seat belt, expired sticker, failure to update address and I ended up with a few months of DA on the speeding charge...dude is a magician

poof, charges gone

Ridesmart is also certified by the state and you can do a track day (in level 1) and use it as defensive driving! I am unsure of the exact details but you can contact randy at ridesmart and he can get you the details.

I am on the same boat. Got busted doing 80 on a a 60. I never saw any signs for the speed limit. La Porte, TX Court don't mention nothing about which course to take so I told them I wanted to do the Defensive Driving Course and they were OK with my choice. Now need to find a place where to take it.

Thank you Sir. I just finish the course and score 90 on the test (miss two questions). It took me 3 days to finish the course at 2 hours per day doing the on-line course, it was very boring! so far I spent $169 vs paying $200 for the fine.

$109 - Court fee.
$25 - On-line course.
$35 - DPS on-line driving record.

It's better than sitting in a class away from home for the entire time
