Well I did do the compression test while the engine was cold, possibly why I yielded lower compression results. Ive been taking a look at it every chance I get since we are remodeling the house and im running around tinkering with everything at the moment lol.

Well, once i get my shims in, ill take apart the valvetrain and see if i can possibly spot anything

Maybe just pop the head off the bike and take a peek inside the combustion chamber.

I was thinking of doing that... does anyone know off hand if the cylinder head bolts are reusable? are they yield to torque? I cant seem to find that info anywhere...

Not sure if they are stretch bolts or not. I'm sure swapping them out when you pull the head wouldn't hurt. Also a new head gasket would be a good idea.

I could just avoid the whole situation by installing a new head really.. If that is the problem in this case.. lol. Just waiting on parts right now and going to narrow down this problem one part at a time..

So, i got the shim kit in and shimmed everything perfectly until I got to cylinder 1 intake valve buckets. they would not budge out of the head. Odd, so I inspected it a little closer and noticed the camshaft and head where the cam sits was grounded down to a crisp... Not sure if this is what is causing the racket ive been hearing but it does look like ill either..

A. Buy used head and camshafts, new cylinder head bolts and head gasket
B. Buy new motor
C. MAYBE POSSIBLY find a shop that can fix up the head... which i feel is near impossible to get it back to OEM spec

Not sure what route to go just yet because I am unsure of the prices involved with either option..

Anyways, onto the magical tell-all pictures...

The damage doesnt bother me as much as figuring out what exactly happened so i can take preventative measures in the future.

My speculation is maybe the cctl took a dump, oil level possibly dropped during that time (oil light blinked right before bike shut off) and cyl 1 cam holder went with it..

Not exactly sure what has happened up to this 12,000-13,000 mile mark but I can tell the head has been replaced before (finishes on block and head are way different).

Im kind of bummed. Weather has been really nice and I get to sit in my cage and stare at all of you who are free to ride in the wind...
