Anyone planning on buying a new KTM?

Went and rode the 690 and 1290 Super Duke during the demo today at Houston Motorsports. I got a card for $300 off a new bike or $500 in ktm parts/accessories with your purchase. If anyone is looking to buy a new KTM (I am not) the card is yours for free.

I just got laid off about 2 weeks ago so a new bike is out of the question in my foreseeable future. Plus, I never buy new. I'm also a Kawasaki guy. A close friend of mine is the only guy out of our group with a KTM (250sxf) and he has had nothing but problems with it, so I don't have really good impressions of their reliability. Yes always having issues getting it started between the starter, battery and all the fuel filters they put in that thing. I have no idea why they need a filter in the tank and then another one in-line before the injector (recalled).

The bike itself was amazing. Coming from a 600 ss, the 1290 felt more up my alley as far as power and it also felt a little more planted at speed on the highway than the 690. The 1290 was the first bike I've ever ridden with ABS and traction control and to be honest I couldn't even tell that the electronics were even there. I'd really like to try a z1000 one of these days, but overall I was extremely pleased with the Duke (aside from the price). They'll be down at Tejas tomorrow, so go try one out!

I rode it today also. The super duke is a tool. You are locked in to its unique riding position, upright with elbows bent. you dont see anything in front of you - no fairing or instruments or front wheel. It is exceptionally responsive and powerfull but the power is not intimidating at all a real pussycat until you want it to be violent.
It is a motor, wheels and controls and thats what it feels like - no extra anything to get in the way of a primal motorcycle experience, an extreme one.

I want a Super Moto T with that motor in it.

How is the riding position? Is it comfy enough to ride to Austin for the weekend?

position is comfortable but the wind blast at speed could be brutal.
Ty Howard said he has raced a basically stock one several times and the aerodynamics at full tuck aren't as bad as they may seem. He got 2nd in F1 at Nola.
It would be alright for 2-3 hour ride.

It's perfect IMO. I ride the 600 to Austin a few times a year and would LOVE to have that instead for longer trips. The only thing that would take a little getting used to IMO would be the rear sets and no windscreen. At one point I reached down for the rear brake and thought the pedal was gone, lol. I'm sure a little adjustment would take care of that. Overall a great bike and the power delivery was really smooth. Not jerky or anything, just really smooth until you opened it up. I'd definitely go with the 1290 over the 690 though.

And I just might take you up on that z1000 offer one of these days!

The offer is always open. Plenty have rode it. at the last meet, Solracer offered my bike up without even asking.

Second set of tires are going on this weekend. I figure that's when the "new" has worn off.

I picked up a '15 SuperDuke 1290 back in July. Really fun bike to ride, my parents live in Bastrop which is south of Austin. I will make a few trips home with it. Only downside is lack of wind protection.
