Air-Ride Suspension No-No

So my air-ride suspension started to wear out and was leaking. It wasn't a quick leak at first, so I welded up a small clip on the bottom of the frame to mount a rubber bumper to keep it from laying the fender completely on my rear tire. This was a 'just-in-case' modification if I was too far from home and the suspension gives out on me thing.

Time passes and I got comfortable with the temp-fix...

Yesterday, I came home from an 80 mile ride and as I was pulling into the garage, I come to a sudden halt. I gas it, thinking I didn't have enough momentum built to get over the concrete lip... BAM! I was like, "WTF!" I rolled back and put the kickstand down to inspect what was dragging. One of my air-ride suspension tubes was hanging down! What I think had happened was since there was no pressure on the suspension and it was free to bounce and vibrate... that the fastener must have worked its way off on my ride. I'm lucky as that I didn't catch any raised concrete while riding, or my would have been pretty hurt, or dead.

Moral of this short story, fix your problems in a timely matter and don't try to temporarily patch it to ride... Especially if it has to do with your suspension!!!

Yea... I was mortified afterwards. Especially after I noticed it was hovering nearly an 1" off the ground.
