Mexico travelling...

Ok here's my situation, hopefully someone can give me some input...I was recently contacted to do a stunt show in Mexico City that starts in 2 weeks. They will be flying me there and back. Have been doing some research online and found, due to the abundance of passport applications, that they had made an amendment to the previous law that was put out in January that you had to have a passport to fly back from there. I do not have one yet, but from what I read and tried to understand, the amendment that was passed last month states that you only need a specific form(forgot what they called it) that proves you have a PENDING passport application and that they would accept that for now....Anyone have any insight to this?

a receipt from the passport office stating that you've applied for one. you should go apply and ask them specifics.

As of January 29th, if you are FLYING to another foreign country, you are required to have a passport, as stated by U.S. Customs and border Protection.

they relaxed that law as of june 8, because passport offices were 6 or more months behind in paperwork. the grace period ends sept 30, so you have until then to travel with a government issued id and proof of application for a passport.

Quote:
U.S. citizens traveling to Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or countries in the Caribbean region who have applied for, but not yet received passports, can re-enter the United States by air by presentation of a government issued photo identification and Department of State official proof of application for a passport through September 30, 2007. The federal government is making this accommodation for air travel due to longer than expected processing times for passport applications in the face of record-breaking demand.

they're stating ten days for online tracking of your application. the passport office should give you something when you turn in your application in person. i could be wrong though.

Very true, we have done a few shows down there the past couple of years but mostly border towns, and one that was 4hrs into Mexico. But this one will be the farthest I've been down there for sure. I told them they would have to include payment for a second person because no way in was I going by myself, lol.
