Just make sure that if you get an 05/06 that there was a frame recall due I cracking at the welds.

Kinda shows how much you know about them.... Those don't split at the welds. Unless it's wrecked.

They split where the air ducts are. 06-07 600/750s crack on the welds.

And the best place to get a pep talk about riding experience, safety gear and how many track days have you done....(as if that makes a difference) and almost certainly at least one person trying to talk someone into a 600 when clearly the questions are about 1000s.

Every time I skip the forum for a few weeks/months, I come back to read the same BS responses every time, year after year...SMH...

01-04 GSXR1000s have the best low to midrange power, they are the most comfortable and look the best...Usually around 140-145hp stock, 150-160hp with a full system/PCV and custom map.Typically trap 140-142 in the 1/4 and run 178-180 mph top speed (GPS). The brakes and suspension pretty much suck on them.

05-06s, make more in the midrange and definitely more up top. Usually piped/tuned will make 165-170hp, trap 145 mph in the 1/4 and will run 180+ top speed. Better suspension, radial mount calipers and overall better brakes. These still look decent.

07-08s normally make 168-175hp piped/tuned. Will run 145-148 mph in the 1/4, 180+ top speed. These are the ones that seem to have the best aftermarket and typically built into the fastest 1000s in the country.

Not much change/increase in power from 09-15.. Small refinements but no major gains.. 170-175hp piped/tuned..max, ABS brakes, refined suspension. The bodies seem to get uglier after the 07-08s and the colors are terrible.

All are great bikes, it's really about the one you like the looks of best, although the the newer ones do have better suspension, abs, better brakes etc.

If I was to buy another one, I'd buy an 07 in black/orange. However I am very partial to the 01-02s if you don't HAVE to have the fastest, they are more comfortable, more reliable, just the best all around street bikes. Hard to find them these days not trashed all to tho. GSXRs in general are the most dogged out/thrashed out sport bikes out there so buy with caution.

K5 model is arguably the most user friendly. Find a super clean one, ignore the miles, they are practically bullet proof. I sold a K5 a few years back with Ohlins all round for around $5k. Not worth wasting the money on the latest and greatest. Unless you want to throw all your wedge at an new BMW liter bike with active suspension...
