Astros open up crucial four-game series with Rangers

The Astros and Rangers open up a big four-game series in Arlington Monday night.

In the American League West, the Astros stand in first place just 1 1/2 games in front of the Rangers. Back in April not many fans would have predicted this series would mean as much as it does.

Houston has won just four of its last 10 games while the Rangers are 5-5. Scott Kazmir is getting the ball for Houston against Cole Hamels.

The Los Angeles Angels, who are very much alive in the race now as they have won six of their last 10, stand just 4 1/2 back of the Astros. LA opens up a series Monday night in Seattle.

The American League wild card race has the Rangers, who currently hold the second of two spots in the AL, ahead of the Twins by just a game and the Angels by three. Minnesota is home this evening to Detroit's Tigers.
