Former Houston Astros pitcher Joaquin Andujar dies

Former Houston Astros pitcher Joaquin Andujar has died at age 62, according to multiple reports.

Andujar, an 1982 World Series hero with the St. Louis Cardinals, had been suffering from diabetes while living in his native Dominican Republic.

The right-hander signed with the Reds as a teenager, but made the majors with the Astros in 1976. After joining the Cardinals from 1981-85, Andujar pitched for Oakland for two seasons, then returned to Houston in 1988 in a bullpen role. He retired after that season.

Andujar, a four-time All-Star, had a career record of 127-118 with a 3.58 ERA. He finished among the top seven in Cy Young voting in 1982 (7th), 1984 (4th) and 1985 (4th).
