Daily Craig: College football season opens

Craig Roberts returns to KPRC 2 with his 'Daily Craig' column.

A guy went by our place last night. He yelled, "Hey, how did you like the TEXANS GAME?" He knows I take lots of notes and can spot stuff on TV a mile away. I told him two things stood out. Ben Jones did a hamburger commercial and the garbage people have dumpsters that talk. He admitted he missed those two highlights. That's why I keep cranking out the hits.

The college season is on and you could tell it counted because people appeared to be excited. TCU had a game that might still be going, but the Frogs did one thing no other school has done recently in Minnesota. The Gophers had their place sold out. The first sold out home game in 20 years. Michigan got a nice plane ride to Salt Lake. Their alums had their first taste of 3.2 beer and the team didn't lose as bad as they might have. Jim Harbaugh had new khakis for the event.

Speaking of sellouts and such, the University of Houston wants to be a top notch outfit here in town. To that end they play a high school team this Saturday with NO LOCAL TV. If that isn't marketing I am not sitting home typing. This marks the 35th straight year the COOGS have told us they want to be important.

I also want to say SPEED to the area's DOVE HUNTERS. It's the first full weekend and remember, you gotta get them quick because they charge when they're wounded. Last year I drove 300 miles to hunt the little wingers. There were about 20 on my garage roof when I came home. I gotta make sure I have a duck stamp.
