Owl / Hawk Impact vs. Me- North Central Arkansas 9/1

Here is Go Pro video from yesterday. Rode the Push Mountain Run through North Central Arkansas.

Hawk or Owl (think it was an Owl) decided it was time to dive bomb and we had an impact at 65-70.

Ninja survived. Shoei survived (minor scratches and blood splatter), and my Alpinestars SP 1 came out flawless.

Glad I had lowered the visor a few miles back!

I guess I can be called BIRD MAN now.

that had to feel like a brick! And he didn't dive bomb, he was startled by your bike and flew up and out of the ditch on the right side.

Since it took off from the ground near the road, it's likely a buzzard. Doesn't look like an owl.

I was thinking the same thing, but a buzzard would have knocked him smooth off his bike..

It felt like a major league pitcher had threw a ball at 120 MPH (or a brick). My shoulder and neck took the direct and most impact.

Have replayed it several times (and collected the forensic evidence off the bike). It was a hawk.

I went back looking for him to bag him up and cook him (being that it is legal to cook your roadkill, and I am in Arkansas), but he was gone!

I wonder if he died or just got a good "buzz" out of it!

Just glad I put down my visor a few miles back.

I haven't had much luck lately. Auto pedestrian victim in Galveston on Seawall (intentional) and then this......

I am running a pool.. how long can I survive? ROFLMAO.

It was enough to knock me off the bike- but I had a firm grip on the handles. I saw it coming as a potential hazard, I put weight on the pegs and held on as tight as I could in the event of impact. I had no time to attempt to avoid. Replaying it, the bird took off at 10 seconds or thereabouts, and I hit at the 10 second mark.

The only reaction I could have was to dig in my heels and hold on, because I knew I was likely about to be a grand slam.

I anticipated loosing control of the bike but continued to hold on until after the bird was off me.

Brought it to a stop and the GoPro was still running..... What you don't hear me saying is F-F-F repeatedly rubbing the point of impact.

1. He wouldn't be the first to be hit by a buzzard and stayed on his bike.
2. Buzzards don't hatch as full sized adults.
3. Not saying that it couldn't be a hawk but it appeared to be black.

Its not a hawk . buzzard . Hawks do not hang out in a ditch . Your buddy was there eating some sort of road kill . Lucky your alive not covering the front brake . you had a few seconds to avoid hitting him had you been covering/applying brake . Also before he flys up you can see him standing in the ditch . This post is not a bash , but a reminder
be prepared / pay attention everywhere .

I too have hit 2 birds, one in each knee on the way to work in Amarillo once. I had to buy new pants once I got there. They were covered in blood and birdshit lol. OskarZ28 on here hit a huge buzzard on a ride. He caught it in the chest but he didn't crash.

There are more than one type of buzzard... I think some of you are confusing it with vultures. But, it's definitely a type of buzzard.

Those look like the primary feathers (fingers) of a buzzard.
