You don't have to worry about taxes online and amazon offers free shipping. There's no way brick and mortar retailers can beat that. So, no real advantage.

Very true. But I'm willing to pay the few extra bucks for instant gratification.

You still pay tax online, depends where it's shipping from. amazon almost always pings me with a shipping tax.

your going to get the same price anywhere

So, I suggest taking going to REI, that way if it breaks they will take it back.

Also, if you can hold out for their annual 20% one item sale you can save $.

If you don't mind instructions in Chinese look into the Xiaomi Yi Action Cam.

How does the Sena compare? It looks like it combines the camera with the intercom system.

I have a GOPRO 1 and GOPRO 2 for sale. Battery lasts a whole lot longer than the 3 or 4.

I second the recommendation for a Sony Action Cam. I had a Hero 4 Black which got lost so I purchased the 2015 models of Sony AS-200V (1080p) and X1000V (4K). Noticeably better image quality, image stabilization, sound, form factor, and price. Sony has various mounting options, however you can buy cheap GoPro to Sony adaptors to use GoPro accessories.

GoPro is to the action camera market what Apple is to the smartphone market. It's a good brand that was "first" to become a household name, however other companies such as Sony offer better products. An iPhone is a very good smartphone, but many people love their devices from HTC, Samsung, Motorola, etc.

As for where to mount, I think the chest is the best. It allows a person to see what the ride is like with your arms framing the video. They can easily the road, scenery, as well the instrument cluster.

It looks very strange at first, but you get used to it. You do look like John Hurt from the Alien with a chest-burster given the Sony's vertical shape. The GoPro is better for chest mounting, but if you mount the Sony on your gas tank it doesn't look bad at all.

spaceballs chestburster john hurt

This makes me want to buy GoPro even more over everything lol. I tried to get away from the iPhone last time I had an upgrade, but nothing I tried I liked, picked up another iPhone.

It doesn't compare, man. I have one. It looks great on my Shoei matte black GT Air, does play music off my phone, intercoms, takes calls, takes photos, and has an FM Tuner, and does do videos at 1080p/30 FPS; but it doesn't compare to my GoPro in terms of video quality. It's more of a "emergency situation" type of camera, tbh. Actually, IMO, nothing compares to a GoPro... Yet...
