I want to buy a GoPro.. Any advice?

I want to buy a GoPro. Does anyone know where I can find the best deal on one or is anyone selling a GoPro? Where is the best place to mount it?

EBay or anywhere you can find a used one will be your cheapest route. I'd personally shop around and look for different cameras than a go pro. They're expensive as because of the brand. I picked up a Sony for half a go pro and it's better. There's many other cameras out there that shoot just as good if not better quality and are much cheaper. Go Pro no longer has the "action camera" market cornered so there is a ton of competition. Shop around a little. Also, most of them can use the go pro mounts or have adapters to allow you to use them. If there's one thing they've still got cornered, it's the mounts.

Also, play around with mounting spots and see what you like. There's more than one way to skin a cat (so I've heard).

If your not going to be doing much talking or riding at night, the $110 hero at bestbuy works just fine. If you want to be able to set the ISO settings and possibly get a mic. The 3 silver is just what u need. Remember to get a high speed 16 gig+ sd card too (25-50$)

Ebay of CL. All mounts, spare batteries, and accessories should be purchased on amazon. I ended up with a case, a dozen mounts, a suction cup, a 32GB SD card, and a roll of the 3M VHB tape for less than 60 bucks total (or something) from amazon.

I'm telling y'all, the Sony Action cam is where it's at.

WiFi, GPS, better image quality and better image stabalization.

Here is a link to the same tape GoPro uses. It's really nice to have your own roll of this stuff for mounts. Obviously you must cut it into strips, but it works fantastic and is simply nice to have around the house.

Example of gas tank mount:

You don't want a sony cam or a drift cam. There is a reason 9/10 motovlogers use gopros, granted they use the high end ones.

keep in mind the better the image quality (1080p or 4k) the longer the upload and the harder ur CPU has to work to edit it.
720p at 60 frames is jut fine for me (i just use my for and giggles)

I use a gopro hero 3 on the side of my helmet, $180 cant go wrong imo super easy to use interface tons of attachments and very durable if it flies off the bike, there is a front helmet mount also that you can use depending on your helmet. only thing you need other than the camera is a memory card $12 and either the side or front mount if you want it on your helmet $15

Please enlighten us as to the reason... I'm willing to bet that 9/10 use it because the other guys do. The Sony is hands down better than a Go Pro. You can see it for yourself by watching comparison videos on YouTube.

I'll do some digging and show u riders how something always goes wrong with them, ie the 5sec gap with the drifts.

I currently own a sony as30v camera and a drift ghost camera.

I like the sony cause its light, has an easy one touch record feature, records about 2hrs on one battery that is easily changed, and has excellent quality picture even at night. I dont like that with mine I basically have no way of using a mic, sometimes I dont know if Im recording, and I wanted a longer battery life.

I like the drift ghost cause I dont need a water proof housing, so I can use a mic with my helmet, the batteries last around 3-3.5hrs and are easily changed. It has a car dvr mode which I like cause I use it in my ride when Im caging it. It has a rotating lens so I can mount it any orientation, and a remote for starting and stopping recording or picture taking that lets you know what the camera is doing. It is at least twice the weight of the sony, but still not too heavy for velcro mounting and starting to record is more involved than the sony.

Both are cheaper than the high end gopro and neither need to be mounted like a brick in the wind.

*both have wifi capabilities for using with your phone also and the sony has built in gps which I like

AND please dont buy at a store, ebay or amazon, or you'll get F'd in the A

What about these white series of Sony cameras? Some of them do 4K, the brick style GoPro is really unappealing.

I have the as100v and I love it. I purchased a $5 attachment on Amazon so I can use all of the GoPro mounts, which are much more extensive and readily available than Sony mounts. It has a longer battery life than a GoPro too.

Looks like that is just the previous model to the 200 currently available. I have a Dell gift card I have to burn before december, you suggest just getting the bare camera then using GoPro mounts? It looks like even the basic kit comes with case right?

Yep, it comes with a case. They sell a seperate door for underwater images to eliminate the fish eye, but I haven't had any issues with my normal door. There is a little connector I bought on amazon ($5 iirc)to use the go pro mounts with mine. Sony has a terrible mount selection compared to go pro. Plus, the go pro mounts are sold everywhere.

I like to talk to myself and record while riding sometimes, so I have a S adhesive mount with a J-hook GoPro clip on the front of my helmet with a cheap external mic running up.

Got mine (GPH4 Black) from a friend who had a hookup.. I also have 2 suction cup mounts. I've mounted both Go Pros in the front and back; my other GoPro is a GPH3 White. Huge jump.

I'd say the mount depends what you want to do. The common places have been listed above. I don't have any adhesive mounts on the body; I use the suction cups for body mounts.
