Texans' Mallett misses Thursday's practice

Three days after learning he would not be the Texans opening day starting quarterback, Ryan Mallett missed Thursday's practice.

Head coach Bill O'Brien was asked after practice about Mallett's absence and he explained, "That's between me and him. It's a personal issue with him."

On Tuesday, Mallett was very clear and blunt when discussing his anger and disappointment with the decision to go with Brian Hoyer as the starting quarterback.

“Obviously, I’m disappointed. I don’t agree with it, but it’s for the best of the team, so I’m just going to wait till my turn gets called," Mallett said.

"I wanted this job more than anything. But it is what it is,” Mallett continued.

"Disappointed, yeah. Angry? A little bit. I thought I did enough to deserve the job, but it was not seen that way, so now I’ll do what’s best for the team.”

O'Brien said he expects to play all three quarterbacks against New Orleans on Sunday, but also added, "That’s what our thought is right now on Thursday. But there’s three days ‘til Sunday, so I reserve the right to change my mind.”
