635762523464554268 Hwy 290 Fatal Moto

HOUSTON – Street racing on Highway 290 has left one person dead in northwest Harris County overnight.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, it happened at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 19100 block of Highway 290 heading west.

Investigators say a wrecker was heading west in the center lane of the freeway when a black Chevrolet Corvette and a motorcycle approached him at a high rate of speed from the rear.

The wrecker driver said the Corvette passed him and then he felt a collision from behind as the motorcycle ran into the rear of the truck.

The rider was thrown from the bike. He was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The rider is said to be in his 20s and was traveling about 90 to 100 mph when the collision occurred.

Witnesses said it looked like the Corvette and the motorcycle were racing, but they did not seem to know each other.

Deputies are still searching for the Corvette.

The driver of the wrecker was not injured during the fatal accident.

=\ The main reason I hardly ride anymore. It's just not worth my life when someone changes lanes in front of me which in all likelihood is what happened here.

Why couldn't the motorcycle be in the lane next to the Vette? It's not like it's impossible to find youtube videos of bikes running into the back of

Look, of COURSE I'm speculating. At that speed he could have just blinked and nailed the guy. I was simply saying it's quite possible and it's not like the wrecker is gonna say he was merging... I was also using that as a seaway into saying why I hardly ride anymore. Eat a you two :P lol

Just sayin'. That would be akin to saying I don't drive anymore b/c of merging motorists. The problem wasn't being cut off (speculation), I think it had more to do with his inability to avoid a wreck due to his closing speed.

The difference being if you smack into someone in a car like that you have a chance to live, on a bike there's really none.

Wrecker drivers are the most dangerous reckless drivers in the the city!

Racing takes way too much focus to be done on a whim. If you're not mature enough to ignore some jack wagon revving their engine at a stop light, or you're own ego for that matter, you shouldn't be riding public thoroughfares.

Any time you pull that throttle back really hard, or mash the peddle to the floor board... your risking your chance of loosing control. Most of us have been pretty lucky not to have wound up in a predicament like this. With the increased bike presence on our roadways, you will see more incidents like this.

I have had my fair share of street racing and I have to admit, highway racing is scary to me, and I have always been the 1st to let out once I approached traffic. A lot of bikers like the obstacle of zig-zagging in and out of traffic, but that is to unpredictable for me. I've had sport bikes do fly-bys inches of my vehicle at night... the sudden blast of air and smack of noise usually scares the out of me! So much so, that I usually swerve just a little because I didn't see, or expect it. I wouldn't be surprised if the rider tried to do the same to the wrecker driver... especially if they were coming up on the wrecker and split at last moment to go around the truck.

RIP guy.

your bike doesnt end up like that, by someone just merging into you....... You bike ends up like that when you plow into the back of someone at excess speed.
