Import frustrations

I want to buy a Shark Evo3 helmet on ebay. About $330 shipped from Canada, but ebay warns of tariffs and taxes that may be charged. Anyone have experience with this?

Tried to search .gov sites, but confusing as . Basically sounds like they can charge you whatever they feel like on that day.

Find a brokerage company, they might be able to help.

I don't know the answer so I'm gonna ask - Should we assume you can't buy this helmet in the USA?

If its this one, then obviously you can find it in the USA. Also I swear I've seen these at West Road Honda on 290.

glad I could help. Before you order online, go by the Honda dealer and check the fit. I'm positive now I saw them at honda on 290. I wanted to buy my Nolan locally but I saved over $150 online. Even if it had been a LITTLE more, I would have bought local but the local places couldn't even approach the online price.

So are there tarrifs if you buy from ebay and it ships from the Netherlands? Actually I don't think it matters where it ships from. I think the tarriff depends on where the seller is.

I've bought all kinds of stuff from overseas. As long as the quantity is relatively small, customs typically don't bother charging you import duty, even though there are set schedules on just about everything .

The only time I paid customs is when the seller in Germany shipped via air freight and I had to go to the air terminal to pickup. Customs was nice and only charged me a token amount, but the whole thing took me whole afternoon. So ship by Postal Service if you can. Even common carriers like Ups and DHL are more likely to get wrapped up in customs.

I hav Ordered products from Denmark before. Didn't really cost me any more. Just shipping was a bit more (but not crazy). Did take about 2 wks to get though. And yes you can order these helmets in the U.S. I think motorcyclesuperstore.com has them.

i recently bought a shoei that i found overseas (netherlands) for over 150$ cheaper then anywhere else, they had same warnings about customs and tariffs and all that.

had no issue with shipment, even went through customs very quickly. as long as it is a legitimate company that will fill out all the paperwork correctly i wouldnt expect any problem.

Bought an AGV from Spain a few years ago because although the model was available in the states, the graphics weren't (yet). Shipping was high, but overall it was still less than than the same model here. No mention of tariffs on the invoice. Now, alas, the graphics are available here, so I'm no longer riding around with a rare lid.

So the helmet arrived 2 weeks after ordering it & there were no hidden charges. Overall cost was $300 helmet & $30 shipping (as advertised). Listings in USA were $400+.

nice!

I get things shipped from China quicker then from Canada. Everything sits in Canada to US customs for ever it seems every time. Never had to deal with vat or taxes from Canada.
