Texas Helmet state law

I know most of you know this but Just thought i'd let you guys know if you didnt know the exact law regarding helmets

stole this from the DoT website i was surfing while bored at work

By law, motorcyclists and their passengers are required to wear protective headgear that meets the safety standards adopted by the Texas Department of Public Safety. Motorcyclists are exempted from wearing helmets only if they are at least 21 years of age and: 1) have successfully completed a motorcycle operator training and safety course approved by the State; or 2) are covered by a health insurance plan that provides at least $10,000 in medical benefits for injuries resulting from a motorcycle collision. In addition to helmets, other protective clothing such as gloves, jackets, boots, and long pants can help reduce injury to a motorcyclist in case of a collision.

$10K is the min.

and you are correct. $10k for head trauma is nothing.

Without an exemption sticker, the cops can still pulled you over and give you a ticket for no helmet. It happened to me. I had to explained to the judge and showed the judge the laws. He didn't even know about it either.

riding w/o a lid gives the cop the authority to just pull you over just for that. and to check that you have all the proper documention

either the MSF completion card
or "no helmet" sticker
or paperwork showing you have $10k or more in ins.

Well, that thread referred to is a bit old. There has been made a more recent decision about NWS avatars:

1. Take and successfully complete MSF

2. Apply for helmet exemption sticker

3. Receive sticker in the mail

4. Apply sticker to the back of your helmet and keep it on your head at all times

just sayin
