NRG Stadium gets wireless upgrade
Texans' fans won't just have the tomorrow's 2015 season kick-off to be happy about. They'll also be cheering on the new wireless upgrade installed at NRG Stadium.
Verizon Wireless spent $12 million to enhance the game-day experience for Texans fans.
The company constructed and activated a distributed antenna system (DAS) and more XTLE network technology at the stadium.
NRG Stadium now has 783 antennas in order to increase capacity by four times of the current system.
That means fans can now enjoy more speed and power on their wireless devices as they take pictures, take to social media, call and text from inside the stadium.
"Our objective is to provide our fans with an unparalleled experience at NRG Stadium, which is why we are thrilled that our long-time partner, Verizon, is investing in leading-edge technology to keep our great fans connected on game day," said Jamey Rootes, president of the Houston Texans.
It's all being done ahead of Super Bowl LI, which will be held in Houston in 2017.
The DAS will also be used when NRG Stadium helps host the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo every year.
