Creator of 'Hard Knocks' speaks with KPRC 2 Sports

"Hard Knocks: Training Camp with the Texans" has a five-week run on HBO detailing the teams’ road to the regular season. The HBO and NFL Films production is in its 12th season on HBO and has previously featured eight other teams, including the Cowboys, Jets, Bengals and Dolphins.

The first season in 2001, the Hard Knocks cameras followed the Baltimore Ravens in camp. That was the first time veteran television director Marty Callner, saw his creation come to life. Callner has directed sports, music and comedy specials over the years, but is also credited with the creation of Hard Knocks.

He was excited about having the Texans as the featured team.

"It’s a very colorful team with a colorful coach,” Callner said. “The Texan have a great, great story and it’s a really interesting franchise. We’re very happy, I was thrilled when I heard it was Houston. There’s something very sexy about the Houston Texans.”

Randy McIlvoy caught up with Callner at NRG Stadium.
