Pearland Little League West advances to regionals

The Pearland Little League West Team was celebrating a big win Friday for the start of the Southwest Regional Tournament in Waco.

Pearland West fans screamed loud and proud as the players took on Arkansas on Friday afternoon.

"This is a dream come true," said mother Susan Farmer.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity so we're happy," said mother Lindsay Tadlock.

The team was behind most of the game, but tied it at 3-3 in the sixth inning to force a seventh. That's when Pearland's bats heated up.

"Clear your mind. You can't be thinking anything. Just get a good pitch in," player Ben Gottfried said.

Then, Gottfried hit a home run.

"It felt pretty good," said Gottfried.

Soon after, Zac Mack knocked another one out of the park.

"I just got a short, quick hit. It's what the coaches teach us every time," said Mack.

After their home runs, the game ended with Pearland West on top 8-4.

"We tell them play every pitch for six innings and usually at the end of six innings, today seven innings, great things happen," said team manager Andrew Solomon.

The team will play Mississippi or New Mexico at 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
