BTW: Boy Scout trail is the one you cross when driving down the paved road into the Gulf Coast Trade Center. If you go in there, head to the right going in, longer walk that way.
I am not familiar with the trails so this will be an adventure. There are some maps posted with number markers on the east map.

the maps in this thread...what number would it be closer to:

SHNF abandoned bike on BOY SCOUT TRAIL!

Come to think of it if you turn right onto 233A the gate is locked and there's no way around the gate that will be a long pushing of that bike to get it to where you can put it in your truck

At the Trading Center take a right instead of a left (left is the trail head). U will come to the locked gate across the the dirt road. Take that to the power lines then take a right (South East). Walk maybe 1/2-3/4 mile till u see the trail cross over the poweline road. Take a right and the bike is in that section of trails.

First attempt on getting the bike ... SHNF Trails 1-ME 0

Walked down 233A found a pipeline going East-west went down and followed a trail to the right ... crossed a second pipeline going north-south walked almost all the way to 233A before I realized it. Doubled back to Pipeline I entered on then went north on same trail till I came to a junction..Boy Scout and Fern. I was on the wrong trail. I started going down Boy Scout while talking to Byrdman on the phone but it was getting late so I turned back. Flashlight trip on the way back .. dark is ok grew up in the country .. no gun left me a little on edge. Got there at 7:10 walked out about 8:45. I covered alot of ground but I walk alot at work so I move quick .. nice hike but not my mission.

Ok round 2 tomorrow morning. Traffic on trails has me worried but will have to listen for the bikes. After watching Buel's and Thumpers videos on Youtube I think I have this figured out. The bike is between the two bridges on Boy Scout .. pretty much half way down the trail. If I have my direction right I just need to go down the pipeline going east-west past where Fern crosses and I should hit Boy Scout crossing. Go to the right .. over the first bridge and its going to be a hike but it should be right side of the trail. I will have more daylight so I will not have to double time it like I did tonight. Going to be a lot of ground to cover pushing that thing back ... I can see why they left it. I wish I knew if it was just out of gas I would hump some gas in if thats all it was.

Wish me luck.

General question about the trails, are they wide enough (generally speaking) that you could get a sidecar rig through there?

so the bike is either stolen or something happened to the owner, right? doesnt seem right to just decide you are lord of the forest and take it.

That's an interesting point, owner could have tried to walk out and died out there !

I was out there about 2 months ago and got my 'ol KDX so stuck that I had to leave it overnight. I was really worried that someone might dig it out or an animal would mess with it but knowing about this one sitting out there for months makes me feel a little easier if this were to happen again. also ill be bringing a machete and a small shovel from now on, lol

ive ridden both, both of those bikes are awesome machines that I could ride all day in the forest or track. 250 2-strokers, on the other hand, are an absolute handful riding on single track trails unless properly setup. Ive owned several of them

Get the bike, post pictures of it with VIN number here on forum and anywhere else you can think of. Wait a reasonable period of time for owner to claim. Leave a small sign with contact info in the Forest where you found it. 6 Months with no claim (with proof of ownership, title etc.) and apply for bonded title. Once bond expires it's yours.

Or just get it running and ride the out of it. You don't need a title anyway for dirt fun. This thread is documented proof with plenty of witnesses that bike was abandoned and not stolen by you. If owner surfaces just give the bike back. You'll have still gotten plenty of free use from it so no loss. Just don't spend any $$ upgrading or on repairs.

Yep .. owner left the bike in the woods because it was broke. I just spent 2.5 hours pushing this bike out of the woods .. and it was not even mine. The owner must not have cared much about their $$ or the bike to leave it in the Natl Forest for months. That in itself is illegal ... littering, dumping what ever you want to call it. If the park rangers had taken the bike out the owner would be looking at a fine plus the cost of dragging the bike out of the woods.

And to those who are now worried about the owner dying or being injured .. sure didnt seem to care when this was posted 2+ weeks ago. I am sure Buell who I spoke to would have known from the park rangers if someone had died in the forest. The park rangers would not have been trying to figure out how to get the bike out if someone had claimed it or notified someone it was left there due to an injury.

That being said, if one of the usual detectives wants to PM me we can run the vin to see if was stolen or find the owner. If we find an owner I will even call them to tell them the bike is no longer in the woods ... If I were a betting man I am sure they could care less because if they really wanted the bike they could have pushed it out of the woods like I did. Was it easy no .. but it was not impossible.
