good question.

i cant remember 100%, but if im right, i believe the TRE fools the ECu into thinking the trans is in 5th, reason being that in 6th the bike has the top speed inhibitor. if this is right than the 2 things i would ask is

1) is there anything about the PC related to gears? or is it just throttle position and RPM?

2) do you really need to go that fast anyway?

I played with the TRE's a year or so ago when we still had a dyno in the shop. As I understand it, the TRE or timing is simply a way for the factory boys to cheat on the epa sound & emmisions tests. It mainly affects 2nd & third gear where those tests are run. It in no way effects the top speed of the bike & we could never even see a reliable hp gain on any of the bikes we tried.

holy what kind of is that? how did somethin like that make it on the board.......

anyways back to the topic.

I was told in the past that the PC "overrides" the timing ....retardation.... but I wasnt so sure that i believe that. I was under the impression that a plain old Power commander controlled the FUEL map, and to control timing you would need the igntion moduel to go with it... maybe im wrong. if that WAS the case, then the TRE would not be needed if a pc was installed, but i have yet to get a for sure word yes or no. more than likely ill just stick the bia on there and see if it makes an improvement. besides i got the "smart" tre so no cutting and splicing is required, just plug and go, 20 seconds...

Chris24. why would i want to tell people my bike is 3 years older than it really is? The swap IMO is pretty cool, i LOVE the new motor over the old and got a GREAT deal on the compete setup. Ontop of that i got the experience of knowin how to do a swap like that and more importantly to not start a swap until i have all the details figured out and mostly i have MONEY to buy all the parts necessary....(swap took me like 3 months:eh: ) anyways thanks for the compliment.

best answer thus far. BUT I always thought the TRE was more for streetability and smooth power delivery rather than all out hp. Did the TRE make the hp/torque curve smooth....and/or "better"??????

your power commander only controls the fuel, the tre eliminates the timing , in the lower gears, and 6th gear on a busa. If you have it already, put it on there, you will notice a small difference, I wouldnt go buy one.

How it works:
your bike has a built in shift indicator(the bike knows what gear it is in). Suzuki made a custom timing map in the lower gears and top gear(retards the timing to keep you from going too fast).
The tre fools the computer into thinking it is in fourth gear all the time(other than nuetral).

A good dyno tune will help your bike tremedously, specially on your aplication. Save your money if you havnt bought the tre yet.
