Got Some New Boots!

Yup, that's right - I finally got a pair of dirt-worthy boots. Alpinestars Tech 3.

I'd tried these on a few times before in Cycle Gear to find my size, then shopped online for a better price. A* must have a deal with its distributors, because everywhere I looked had them listed for the EXACT same $159.95.

I put them on and started walking around the store, talking with the salesman about this and that, all the while getting a feel for the boots. I was 99% sure they were the ones I would get but I just needed that extra 1% to get my wallet to cough up the credit card.

I made the sensor go off twice at the door, since I just HAD to go outside and sit on the bike to see how they felt. I'm sure the guys inside were getting a kick out of the show, with me trying out all different seated and peg-standing positions while Alejo moved the shifter up to accomodate the fatter feet that would be riding away once we'd finished.

Look, shiny!

BSG hard at work.

He moved the lever up about an inch and a half, which is going to take some getting used to.

Cool tread...

For me, the dirt boot choice was based laregly on cost (a 15% Cycle Gear coupon certainly helped!). I know there are better boots out there than the 3's, but I'm not willing to sink all my petty cash into a pair of boots I may not wear very often (um, yeah - since I don't yet have a dirt bike) but I wanted something that was comfortable, but supportive in all the right places. The fit nicely inside my street pants, sans liners. I'll need to buy some longer socks to avoid the slight chafing I got riding around in them for the rest of the day (the socks I wore today stop at mid-calf) but otherwise I might just wear these for longer day rides even on the street.

Ankles are fragile! :rider:

I've talked to Javi about a lot of stuff, but for boots I really needed to find somewhere to try them on and walk around for a while. I like to think that I still (somewhat) support the local shops.

Other stuff for the bike will all be coming from Javi.

Oh, and let me add - I've had issues finding a low-end dirt boot that fit my calf, but these actually still have room to adjust bigger if I need or want.

Dirt pants, jersey, and gloves are on their way already, so next up is some armour.

Eventually I'll actually get a dirt bike too!

If you look closely, you can see the white spots - that's chain lube. it's dirty, but it's well lubed and should still have another few weeks of life left.

Wishful thinking! The Strom is a great offroad bike, but it's no dirt bike. :eh:

With more ankle protection, I might just be tempted to learn how to ride like a ... uh, I mean motard style... :laughing6
