need to borrow a tool if anyone has it

Changing clipons on my '02 gixxer 750 (thanks to my roommate wrecking my bike and bending one). I need the socket that allows removal of the star nut on top of the triple clamp. Anyone got one? I'd be willing to throw a few dollars someone's way if I could borrow it.

You can snag an individual Torx socket in that size for around $4 at Sears.

A regular metric socket will work. You just have to find the right size because it is bigger than the ones that normally come in a tool kit. Go to Autozone or a hardware store to get it.

neither. Torxs is internally a star. This nut is externally a star if that makes any sense. I'll try to post a pic.

Re: need to borrow a tool if anyone has it

I think it's a 22mm socket, (if you call the shop tomorrow I can confirm that for you; 281 444 0545) a 12 point works well. Wrap the nut with teflon tape before you put the socket on it so you won't scratch the anodizing.

I was told either 32 or 36 from a bud, but thanks for the tip on the teflon tape!

Re: need to borrow a tool if anyone has it

yeah its the nut on the top of the triples. suzukis have this weird shaped nut there. I personally dont have the socket but if I ever needed it id buy it just to have for future. If you are able to lift the bike you dont have to do that to remove your clip-ons
loosen the forks and slide them down and the clip ons come right off after you remove a few screws. that's what I did when I replaced my stock clip-ons. I think it took me about 30mins or so.
