According to some people, regardless of the data stating otherwise (testing that various magazines and such have done), if you don't own a Shoei, Arai, or Suomy helmet, then you're not going to be as safe in a wreck as those who wear the aforementioned brands. I disagree. There are plenty of lower priced brands that hold up great in comparion testing to the "big 3"; KBC and Scorpion being two of them. IIRC, a few years back, one mag chose the KBC VR1 as the best bang for the buck based on test results against the "big 3" (and other brands as well).

Like SecretAgent said, there are some folks here who always get on to others when their opinions differ from their own. Just b/c someone doesn't have the same views as you do doesn't mean they are wrong (or cheap).

Lastly, getting a helmet for free and wearing it doesn't equal being cheap. If someone believes that to be the case then if anyone ever gives you a Shoei, make sure not to wear it since it was free... it's obviously cheap and isn't good enough to cover your head.

As long as it's Snell approved, I'd venture to say most will hold up similarly in crashes. IMO the brand comes in to play when talking about wind noise, aerodynamics, quality, etc.

Just my opinion and I KNOW someone will say I'm totally WRONG bc I disagree with their opinion. Oh well.

hjc, icon, and scorpion are all nice when i tried them on.

only reason i never bought one was because of the weight. too heavy. after owning 2 shoei and 2 suomy. i couldnt justify buying a heavier helmet.

HJC makes KBC helmets. Also, you say Suomy and Arai make the best lids, but discount Shoei because you don't like the color schemes? That's all personal preferance right there. I trust my X-11 with my life. I'm going to try an Arai next, though I can't find a single fault with my current helmet.
