Sena 20s or SMH-10

Thinking of buying one of these, but can't decide if the 20s is worth the extra money, I read some reviews on the 20s and people seem to have mixed opinions, some people are calling bullshit on some of the advertised features such as the 1.5 mile range and issues with intercom dropping out when receiving a call. What's your experience? would like to hear from people who own a 20s.

I commute to work everyday and also to school when the semester starts back. I use ear buds to listen to music but sometimes they fall out while I'm riding from too much air moving through my helmet (stupid naked bikes). On the weekends I ride with people that do have headsets so that would be the only time I really use the intercom, It would be more for listening to music, I'm willing to pay for the 20s if the sound quality is better, I know you're not going to get bose quality music on a bike but if its worth it let me know.

Thanks.

I have the 10r range is good and battery life is great. The speakers have no base and that's fine, but when you crank it up in 75mph zones it crackles quite a bit if the song was meant to be base heavy

Both have comparable speakers. I'd say that they're the same but you can tell a physical difference. No sound difference though. The only reason to get the 20S over the SMH10 in my mind is the multitasking. I can overlay my radar detector onto my music or intercom and it will interrupt them to give me a radar alert. Supposedly you can do intercom and music at the same time as well but I haven't had any luck with that yet. It's worth it just for the radar overlay in my eyes. But my SMH10 did everything other than that just fine.

I've got 20s and 10r. As Repth said, no sound quality diff. I still use earbuds w/ 20s, wind noise just overpowers the volume. I'm enjoying having FM radio w/ the 20s as well as the ambient sound amplification.

The 20 has fm radio and you can detach from the helmet to charge it - made it worth the upgrade for me.

Older thread but I figured I'd chime in in case anyone else had this question still.

A friend and I split the 20s two-pack a few weeks ago and it has improved my longer distance riding significantly. Phone calls are so clear that people usually can't tell I'm on the bike at 80. Also, radio is a huge plus and it connects to my phone instantly when turning on. It has voice operated functions such as speed dial calling that can be set up with the app pretty easily. I wear earplugs during highway driving and the volume competes with the wind noise but I can still hear the music.

My only complaint is the range of the rider-to-rider communication. They claim about a mile but I found it to be significantly less than that even with straight line of sight.

I also rode in some pretty bad rain with zero issues.

I have an smh10 I bought 2 weeks ago I'll sell it for a 100 bucks if anyone wants it. Like everyone else said if the song has a deep bass it doesn't sound as good. When I get calls and try to talk on the phone the person on the other end can't really hear me.

Use earbuds, the foam kind. (I do and love it)

Also, you must have the mic wired incorrectly.

People don't know I'm on a bike till 80mph.

I too plan on getting the 20s some day. for now, I love my SMH10

Personally I'd never wear these. They don't offer any ear protection. Earbuds at least keep wind noise out which is a huge deal to me. I don't want to be a deaf old Harley rider. I try my best to ride with ear plugs or ear buds in 100

Your speakers arent close enough to your ears bro, you need to play with your equalizer, and relocate your mic.

Or maybe your helmet is too big and noisy af.

Been rockin SMH10 for 2 years. 12+ guys in the club have em, 5/10/20's.

If you dont put nay effort into, they suck.

If you are conscious of how you install things, the sound quality is quite good (if you dont have it cranked up all the way cuz of poor install), and the mic is clear at 80mph when located correctly (near front of cheek pad, middle height).

PS- its quite easy to replace the SENA speakers with high quality speakers built for headphones. Yall rebuild a motor but cant use a little electric tape?

I'll never ride without one. The ability to communicate quckly between membrs of group rides, call out for emergencies etc, man. They so clutch.
