Bike(s):
2016 ktm 500exc
2014 ktm 690 duke (sold)
2009 CRF450r (sold)
2006 CRF250r (sold)

almost there/new bike!

I traded in the duke for the 2016 KTM 500exc today. I got to ride her for about 30 miles, and a lap and a half (very slow pace) at the track, and all i have to say is I cant get on her to hard on the street just yet, I'll be looking for a street tire set up here in a couple of weeks.

Shout out to Mainland Cycle Center for putting her together fresh out the crate in such a timely manner.

nasty. NASTY.

I want to ride it, I've had my eye on the 2015 at wild west, but I need to sell the DRZ first. (I traded my 690 duke in for the 1290 s.duke)

NICE! I've been debating picking up a EXC/FE501S or waiting for the new Husqvarna 701.

Man that looks nice. I think the 701 will be right up my ally being more highway capable. Byrd, hows your 690 at highway speeds compare to something more like the 500/501?

are you ever going to convert it back to dirt? If not order some hoops and spokes from the website below and use the OEM hubs. You can always order some cheap tusk complete dirt wheels for about $700 later on.

Im not convinced the 701 will make it to the states

I haven't ridden a 500/501 on the high way but Longboarder has had all 3...maybe he will chime in.

My 690 is pretty good at highway speeds tho. Ive gotten it all the way up to 115 mph on stock gearing and it cruises very well at 70-74 @5k RPM.

Id imagine if you are going to be doing ALOT of highway then the 690 is the way to go but if you aren't going to go 100+ high way miles then the 501/500 would be . Its light and has ridiculous amounts of power. I think it will put my 690 to shame on a short course for sure.

I've spoken to a few dealers, and all i can get is that after some sort of show/convention in August, they will know the MSRP, and release date. They are also taking deposits, but i know that doesn't mean for sure that the bike will land in the U.S. I'm crossing my fingers.. I just want something i can hop on and cruse to galveston if i wanted to.

If you are looking to ride to Galveston or farther get the 690 for sure. If you want to ride around town and terrorize the homeless people and joggers at Memorial Park get the FE501.

I think I will do the same. Get a set of wheels for sm tires. I was at a KTM dealership in Colorado a while back. I found that the wheels where not that expensive. Unlike the BMW where you are looking at 4k or so for a duplicate set up.

Btw, how do you like that oil change after one hour of riding. Sigh.

I am at .6 hrs right now. I'll get the rest tomorrow and then into the shop on Tuesday for the 1 hour service. I'm curious what that will cost. The BMW costs a fortune to even drive by the service center.
