NRG Stadium remains prepared to Host UIL State Football Championships
Each December the best football teams in Texas converge on AT&T Stadium in Arlington for the UIL State Championships.
This year the 10 game slate is set for December 17-19 but NRG Stadium is prepared to serve as the host site .
While the University Interscholastic League has yet to announce their decision, plans have been in place for weeks for NRG to host in December according to individuals with knowledge of the process.
Currently and for weeks, there has been no signed agreement in place. Until that occurs nothing is official.
"There is nothing to report yet, said UIL Media Spokesperson Kate Hector. " Nothing has been decided. When it is we will announce plans sometime this summer."
UIL Executive Director was unavailable for comment Wednesday but in recent months said publicly that Houston was the front runner to land the State Championships after the NFL released it's schedule showing a conflict with a Dallas Cowboys game on December 19 at AT&T Stadium.
NRG last hosted in 2008. Since then it has added artificial Field Turf to be used for events including High School Football Games..
NRG hosted two consecutive weekends last fall involving Class 6A Quarterfinal and Semi-final games with Katy High School. The Tigers won both to advance to the Title game in Arlington.
