Local bike Mechanic Issues

Hello Everyone. I have a rant to put out there. I have handed my bike over to a local motorcycle garage for an engine overhaul. Well that was about 5 months ago... My bike was still not ready two weeks ago... I got a few positive emails from the shop owner saying everything is going well and on track... Then i get this excuse of weather delays and blah blah blah... I am going to hold back on the name of the shop and give it a couple more weeks but if it is still not done I am going to have to look into some sort of legal action.

Speaking of legal actions or actions period. Any advice's?

Thanks,

Thanks,
After it was in there for a month I would have collected my bike.

Why hold back the name? Name the shop so no one else gets screwed.

In the future whenever you sign any agreement involving labor add these words to it: "Time is of the essence" along with a date of completion.

If you've not paid them any money yet, you've not suffered any damages that you can recover.

All, The shop is Called Riderz garage off of 45 and West Road. As for after one month of it being there I have to say that is my fault. I work halfway around the world in Asia and am gone weeks and months at a time. When I discussed my bikes overhaul back to OEM spec's it was going to be "work on right away" with the understanding I would be back in 6 weeks to get it. Once we came to terms and I got the quote in writing (which took a while also) I made a payment in good faith the bike would get worked on (we are talking about my baby after all) so I wanted it done for my next hitch home. Sadly my bike was not ready when i went back on my last ration two weeks or so ago.

I like to be fair and give some room for issues. I do understand the weather has sucked pretty bad these past two months and maybe that actually had a delay but honestly it is only a busa engine getting a simple overhaul... It is not like the bike was blown... I drove it over to the shop and dropped it off after spending the weekend on it.

Ok i am venting now. I am accustom to helping people out and supporting the small guy/gal in business instead of larger companies that loose track of quality in customer service BUT this one seems to have bit me in the !!!!!!

I am open to any and all thoughts both good and bad. I don't mind BSing back and forth about my bike and hearing other issues from around Houston.

Thanks everyone.

Just out of curiosity, what bike were you having overhauled? What was the condition of it prior to entering the shop, and what is the status of it now? How did you find and choose the shop in question? I'd collect my bike/parts, pay any bill that may be owed, and walk away with a lesson learned...not all shops are created equal. Good luck!

Seems like its easier to buy a new bike then have a engine rebuilt, or repaired.

Not sure I would go to a shop named "riderZ"

Especially off 45 and west road........

Something as intricate as a engine build should be taken to a proven shop

Its really hard to find a reputable shop. Sorry to hear about your pain, I've been there too and I'm extremely hesitant now to take my bike anywhere else. Luckily, there are more shops that work on sports bikes than shops that work on custom choppers and such. Good luck and I agree with the others... collect your bike and parts and go somewhere else... they don't deserve the rest of your hard earned money!

Just buy another motor and stick it in there. Unless you are upgrading parts it's not worth it to me. that that motor into the ground....swap another motor into it for $1500-2000 and be back on the road. a motor swap should only take a day in the garage.

I figured that out half way through a zx7r engine build years ago. Bought one from a guy on the wera board for 800 and was done with it
