Houston Astros SS Carlos Correa named AL Rookie of the Month for June

It's been quite a debut month for Houston Astros rookie shortstop Carlos Correa and now he has the hardware to show for it.

Major League Baseball announced Thursday that Correa was named the American League Rookie of the Month for June. Correa hit .287 with nine doubles, five home runs, 15 RBI, four stolen bases and a .543 slugging percentage in 21 games since his June 8th debut. Defensively, Correa committed only one error in his 83 chances for a .988 fielding percentage.

Correa, 20, is the sixth Astros player ever to win a Rookie of the Month Award and the third in the last two seasons, joining starting pitcher Collin McHugh in September 2014 and outfielder George Springer in May 2014.

He is the youngest position player to play in MLB this season.
