Houston Astros place George Springer on 15-day DL with wrist fracture

The Astros swept the Royals with a win Wednesday night, but took a big hit in the process.

Outfielder George Springer was hit on his right wrist by a pitch during the 6-5 win, and left the game. The Astros announced Thursday afternoon that Springer has a fractured wrist and was placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Springer was hitting .264 with 13 home runs, 29 RBI and 14 stolen bases in 75 games this season. His .822 OPS ranks fifth among all American League outfielders.

Houston called up outfielder Alex Presley from Triple A Fresno. Presley, 29, is batting .308 with 35 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 64 games for the Grizzlies.

The 'Stros start a 3-game series against the Red Sox Friday night in Boston.
