drag racer guys need you opinion

I'm looking at buying a bike set up for the 1/4. gsxr 1000.

I'd be driving it back about 2.5hrs.

What are your thoughts on driving it back? I'm NOT sure what the gearing is but he said it was geared. I figured driving a geared bike shouldn't be too bad at 75 MPH.

It is 1/4 geared not stunt geared. lol

I know I didn't give you a lot of info but its too early to call him for more info

-1+2 will be fine. I assume that is the gearing. Be careful if its a drag tire. One drop of rain and you will think you ran over ice

I'll take it a step further, other than the tire, which is there is the slightest bit of moisture on the ground will be slicker than snot.

How much of a drag bike is this?

Has there been motor work done to it and to what extent? You could be looking at thin cylinder walls, which could result in excessive temps at highway speed, especially if the motor was worked hard just for 1/4 miles passes.

Is it carbeurated or fuel injected? If it is carbed, how lean does it run, it could run too lean at highway speeds especially for an extended period of time causing you additional heat issues.

How is the suspension set up, is the front dropped, are the calipers intact? How is it dropped, did they cut the springs or put a lowering kit on it. If they cut the springs or lowered it too low it's goignt o ride like at 75 MPH and if you hit a bump it could buck you right off.

Gearing is not bad as Blue stated, if it's a -1 +2 you should be okay at highway speed,

If it's just a stock bike with an extended swingarm and -1+2 gearing, you should be fine, inspect the chain.

100% on point!

Also, if this bike has full race fairings, you will want to inspect the electrical harness and make sure they didn't hack it to . Most of your electrical issues usually stem from that.

Not trying to take anyone away form this site, but if you need some really good reads on modifications on GSXR's (mainly drag racing mods), check out www.GSXR.com and go to their drag racing threads

Albert where are you picking it up from? I would say you will be OK but look it over and make sure it is safe. Guy selling it may have just got it looking and running good for the sale.

The ONLY reason I'm driving it back is my son(truck) is away working at a summer camp. I'm too old for this mess. lol.
Of course I'll give it the once over....

My only main concern was the gearing issue. I didn't what to be driving at 10k for 2-3 hours....
gearing is -1 +2. noted by you guys... should be ok.
its an 06

You should consider reaching out and seeing if someone will help you trailer it home. Sounds like a long trip and it would be a disaster should mother nature turn on you, or worse, the bike starts to act up and fall on its face.

Buying used sports bikes are really risky because everyone drives them hard... you are buying a used drag bike that is obviously driven to its peak potential. I would really think this one through... might be cheaper to build a roller.

got home at 1am. by the time I took my brother him it was 2am before I got in bed. and yes, I was late to work.

It's not a looker..... the red frame has go to go!!!!
I felt a little bad. they poor guy got all emotional. Like honestly almost started crying! Not even kidding...

From what I remember....
port n polish head
cams(web I think he said) heavy duty springs
adjustable cam gears
new timing chain and components
slipper clutch ???
full yosh
Bazzaz of some sort. o2 sensor installed.
lowered w/ extensions (not thrilled about that)
-1 +2
Speedo adjuster
rear slick. yep drove it like that. lol

I think that's all I can remember. there were some other little things.

OH!!! and it set up for GP shifting... it took a lot of brain energy every time I shifted.

gsxr
