The Birchalls make it a double win at this years Isle of Man TT

THE BIRCHALL brothers took their second 2015 Isle of Man TT victory on Wednesday after winning the second Sidecar race of the week.
Tom and Ben Birchall won with a new race record time and defeated Manxmen Dave Molyneux/Ben Binns by seven seconds with John Holden/Dan Sayle coming home in third.
Although they didn’t take the new race record, Molyneux and Binns finally broke Nick Crowe’s lap record to take a new lap record of 116.785mph.
The Birchall’s grabbed the lead from the start and led Holden/Sayle by two seconds at Glen Helen with Molyneux/Binns a further two seconds adrift. Tim Reeves/Patrick Farrance were only 1.5s behind in fourth as Conrad Harrison/Mike Aylott along with Ian and Carl Bell completed the top six.
The Birchall’s extended their lead to up to 2.5s at Ramsey with the top three remaining the same. Unfortunately it was another DNF for Reeves/Farrance as they were reported to have retired Glen Auldyn just before Ramsey.
An opening lap of 115.549mph gave the Birchalls a 3.4s lead over Molyneux/Binns with Holden/Sayle still in third. Reeves’ retirement saw Harrison/Aylott up to fourth with the Bells now fifth and Gary Bryan/Jamie Winn sixth. The latter pulled in to the pits to retire with Winn having lost his visor over the Mountain.
All three top sidecar men were setting laps around the 116mph mark. The Birchall’s were only two seconds outside Crowe’s 2007 lap record. Their lap was now a hefty 7.6s ahead of Molyneux/Binns. Holden/Sayle 3.7s adrift.
The Birchalls and Molyneux were almost even all the way round and the gap hovered near to the seven second mark as they finished their final mark. It was the Birchall’s who took the chequered flag on top, their third TT win in total, and also breaking their two-day old race record.
They broke Crowe’s lap record with a speed of 116.783mph, but Molyneux/Binns were fractionally quicker at 116.785mph and reclaimed the record he’d last held in 2006. Holden/Sayle came home in third taking their second podium of the week in glorious conditions.
Harrison/Aylott and the Bells finished in fourth and fifth respectively as Dix/Parker secured their best ever TT position in sixth.
Wayne Lockey/Mark Sayers, Steve Ramsden/Matty Ramsden, Rob Handcock/Aki Alto and Tony Baker/Fiona Baker-Milligan completed the top ten.
