Yes, the baffle is that perforated core.

Awesome, thanks. Guess the previous owner wanted to take it out but couldnt get it unstuck

Either that or removed the fiberglass packing and reinstalled the core.

+1 I would suggest you reinstall a suitable bolt, and do with it as you wish.
