Astros call up shortstop Carlos Correa

The Astros called up shortstop Carlos Correa on Sunday. Correa will be available to play Monday when Houston plays the Chicago White Sox. ranks Correa as the No. 2 prospect in baseball. To make room for Correa, pitcher Jake Buchanan was sent to Triple A Fresno.

"Carlos has performed extremely well at every level of our minor league system," Astros general manager Luhnow said in a release. "We feel he has earned this promotion and look forward to him joining our ballclub. Since he is just 20 years old, we do not have unrealistic expectations of Carlos. However, his performance on the field and his maturity indicate that he is ready to contribute on the Major League level."

Correa was drafted No. 1 overall in 2012. At Double A Corpus Christi and Triple A Fresno, Correa had a batting average of .335, hit 21 doubles, 10 home runs and 44 RBIs. He also had 18 stolen bases in 53 combined games in the minor leagues.
